How to create a QR bill in four steps
- The account. Paste the IBAN of the account that is to receive the payment. If your bank has given you a QR-IBAN, use it: it allows automatic reconciliation thanks to the QR reference.
- The creditor. Enter the exact name and address under which the account is held. The payer's bank compares this data with the account holder.
- The amount and the reference. The amount is optional (donation, down payment of any amount). With a QR-IBAN, enter your customer or invoice number: the check digit is calculated for you.
- Printing. Print on white paper, or save as a PDF from the print dialogue. The slip sits at the bottom of an A4 page.
IBAN or QR-IBAN: which one should you use?
A QR-IBAN looks like an IBAN, but its institution identification (digits 5 to 9) lies between 30000 and 31999. It is used only to receive payments that carry a QR reference, which your accounting software reads to match the payment to the invoice without manual work.

Errors that get a slip rejected
- A combined address (street and town on the same line): rejected since 22 November 2025.
- A QR-IBAN with an RF reference, or an ordinary IBAN with a QR reference.
- A QR reference whose 27th digit does not match the recursive modulo 10 calculation.
- A creditor name that differs from the account holder.
- A QR code reduced or enlarged when printed: it must measure 46 mm per side.
If you receive slips generated by other software, the validator reads the image or the text of the code and flags each of these cases.
Beyond a few invoices a month
An online generator is enough for a few invoices. Beyond that, the QR bill is produced in the invoicing software (Bexio, Abacus, Banana, WinBIZ, Crésus, CashCtrl) and incoming payments are reconciled automatically thanks to the reference.
On the supplier side, it is the other way round: the QR bills you receive already contain the IBAN, the amount and the reference in machine-readable form. Dossivio Capture uses them to prepare the booking and the payment without retyping, then a person signs off.

Frequently asked questions
Is this generator really free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no limit. It runs entirely in your browser: nothing you enter is sent to Dossivio or to any third party.
Can I use the slip for a real invoice?
Yes. The code content follows version 2.4 of the Swiss Implementation Guidelines and is checked before it is displayed. Print it without scaling (actual size) so that the code measures 46 mm.
Where do I find my QR-IBAN?
In your e-banking or from your bank. Not every account has one: without a QR-IBAN, use your ordinary IBAN, with an RF reference or with no reference.
Can a QR bill be issued in euros?
Yes, with an ordinary IBAN and an RF reference or no reference. From 14 November 2026, the QR-IBAN and the QR reference are reserved for Swiss francs.
Do I have to include the debtor?
No. Without a debtor, the slip carries a "Payable by (name/address)" box to fill in by hand. For an invoice addressed to a known customer, including it avoids errors.
